Main Church in Londrina New Work in Londrina
Feliz Natal from Londrina, Brazil
December 2007
Dear Praying Amigos,
Our new church plant that was started on October 6th is now off and running. We have held six weeks of evangelistic conferences and started holding regular services on Sunday evenings and Friday evenings. Oddly enough, our best attended service at the new church has been the Friday evening service.
Two month Old Church
Our newest church plant is now two months old. For the last two weeks, the Lord has given us 18 and 20 at the new work. This past Friday evening; we had 18 adults and 2 children present. All of those people were from the area near our new church plant. No one from our mother church was there visiting the service. We now have a core group on which we will be building. Two families transferred from our first church in Londrina plus we have the new people that have started attending. We still have a long ways to go, but we are at least off and running.
Its Christmas Time
This year our main church will be presenting two Christmas cantatas: a children’s Christmas cantata and an adult Christmas Cantata that has a drama presentation
2006 Christmas Cantatas & Play
intertwined in the presentation. Since I now pastor two churches, we are going to be taking both cantatas on the road and will be presenting them at both churches.
My wife Geri has been working with the children’s choir since September preparing for the children’s presentation. We will present that cantata twice at our main church and once at the church. Our adult choir will be presenting their Christmas cantata and play at least once at each works. Pray for these ministries at both churches.
A Special Prayer Request
A few weeks ago, we heard that four churches in Londrina were closed down because they did not have all of the official documentation completed. Brazil never has really enforced this law, but here in Londrina, they are now doing so. In the next week our church will be officially organized and street legal before the Brazilian government. We also need to get our certificate of occupancy and we need to change out some doors, install some emergency lighting and pay about US $2,500.00 in taxes on the construction that has been built so far. I think that all total, this will cost us about US$ 4,500.00 to $ 5,500.00. We are trying to get this done by the end of the year to avoid running the risk of being shut down on a technicality that has hardly ever been enforced before. I had $3,000.00 reserved to pay taxes on the construction on the building, but last month I had to use that $3,000.00 I had in reserve to pay the taxes on the land. The city now exempts us from paying the yearly property taxes on the land, but they would not grant that exception while we were building and that fee had to be paid.
Lets Go Shopping
It was announced this week that a Shopping center / Mall will be built across the street from our church property. The Lord has given us a great location and now it is only going to get better. Pray as we seek to reach people on this growing side of town.
